MUROMI
Description
2025 first harvest
Selected by tea master Domoto-san at Meichaen in Fukuoka, MUROMI is a competition-grade Gyokuro crafted by renowned producer Hoshino Seicha, in the pristine mountain village of Hoshinomura, Yame.
Like its sister competition Sencha Mutsumi, MUROMI is grown with minimal pesticides under strict EU standards, ensuring both purity and excellence. Made from the Saemidori cultivar, it delivers a refined balance of sweetness and umami: the essence of Yame Gyokuro.
Upon opening the bag, you are greeted by a delicate almond-like fragrance, a prelude to the rich umami that defines this exceptional tea. When brewed at a low temperature (no higher than 50°C / 122°F), MUROMI reveals a remarkable balance of sweetness and umami, unfolding almost instantly in a silky, velvety texture. Its signature richness lingers on the palate with a long fresh cut grass aftertaste.
With its mild to high caffeine content, MUROMI can be enjoyed in the morning, or after lunch. Otherwise you can drink it anytime during the day as a refreshing cold brew. Domoto-san himself often serves us a glass of cold-brewed MUROMI during our visits along with some delicious Okashi (Japanese sweets).
For a lighter cold brew, steep 20g of leaves in 750ml of cold water water (e.g., in a 1L Hario bottle). For a deeper, more intense experience, use only 300ml of cold water. Let it settle in the fridge for at least 2 hours. MUROMI can even be enjoyed as a refined toast drink — much like a fine wine or champagne — and can be re-brewed several times, each infusion unveiling new layers of flavor.
